4.0-Inch 480×800 ePaper Display - SPI with External Sensor I²C
DMAYE0400WVNA is a 4.0-inch Active Matrix Electrophoretic Display with a 480×800 pixel matrix, a pure reflective optical structure, and bi-stable image retention. Display data is transferred through selectable 3-wire or 4-wire SPI. Separate I²C master pins are provided for reading a compatible external digital temperature sensor.
The module is documented for electronic shelf label systems and other portable devices that require a low-power reflective display. Final operation depends on the specified controller waveform, electrical design, enclosure, and operating environment.
Specification source: DisplayModule DMAYE0400WVNA Datasheet, Version V1.0.0, dated March 8, 2025. Use the latest approved datasheet and mechanical drawing for design release.
Verified Technical Specifications
The values below are stated in the product datasheet. The detailed interface section defines SPI as the host display-data interface and identifies TSCL and TSDA as the I²C connection for an external temperature sensor.
| Parameter | Specification |
|---|---|
| Display Type | Active Matrix Electrophoretic Display (AM EPD) |
| Active Area | 51.84×86.40 mm |
| Pixel Configuration | Rectangular pixels, 108×108 µm pitch |
| Contrast Ratio | 20:1 minimum; 25:1 typical |
| Interface | 3-wire or 4-wire SPI for display data; I²C master pins for an external temperature sensor |
| Operating Voltage | 2.4 to 3.6 V; 3.0 V typical |
| Operating Current | 15 mA typical at 3.0 V |
| Module Dimensions | 56.24×96.62×0.82 mm |
| Operating Temperature | 0°C to +50°C |
Interface and Refresh Behavior
The module supports serial write operations for display commands and image data. Select the interface mode in hardware and follow the datasheet timing limits and reference peripheral circuit.
3-Wire / 4-Wire SPI
In 4-wire mode, D/C is a separate control signal. In 3-wire mode, each transfer uses one D/C bit followed by eight data bits.
External Sensor I²C
TSCL and TSDA form an I²C master interface for a digital temperature sensor. They are not specified as the main display-data interface.
BUSY and Reset Signals
BUSYN indicates controller activity. Do not send commands while BUSYN is high. RSTN is the active-low reset input.
Full and Partial Refresh
At 25°C, full refresh is 500 ms minimum and 750 ms typical; partial refresh is 250 ms typical. The specified waveform is required.
Power, Optical and Operating Limits
These documented limits support system-level power planning, enclosure review, and sample evaluation. They do not represent total device power or guaranteed battery life.
Environmental limit: The datasheet specifies indoor operation up to 2,000 lux, operating humidity up to 70% RH, and storage humidity from 30% to 60% RH. Avoid condensation, prolonged sunlight, high humidity, bending, twisting, pressure, and connection changes while the panel is operating.
Integration Notes and Common Questions
Review the electrical circuit, FPC connection, controller waveform, mechanical drawing, and final enclosure together before approving the module for production.
Before Sample Approval
Confirm the 24-pin FPC layout, contact orientation, active area, and module outline.
Use the specified reference peripheral components and observe the power and reset sequence.
Validate full and partial refresh behavior at the intended operating temperature.
Protect the panel from pressure, moisture, condensation, and prolonged light exposure.
Is I²C the main display interface?
No. The detailed datasheet specifies 3-wire or 4-wire SPI for display communication. The I²C pins are used to read an external digital temperature sensor.
Does the module include touch?
No touch panel or touch controller is specified in the supplied datasheet. Confirm any separate touch requirement before ordering.
Is the module rated for outdoor use?
The datasheet specifies indoor operation with illuminance up to 2,000 lux. Outdoor exposure or long-term direct sunlight is not covered by the stated operating limits.
Does partial refresh flicker?
The datasheet states that partial refresh does not flicker and gives a 250 ms typical time at 25°C. Full refresh flickers during the update process.
What compliance status is listed?
The datasheet marks RoHS. CE and FCC are not listed for this module. Confirm the compliance requirements for the final product and target market.
How should battery life be estimated?
Use the complete system power budget. Battery life depends on refresh frequency, MCU and wireless power, conversion efficiency, temperature, leakage current, and battery capacity.
