According to a recent report from The Information, Meta has ambitious plans to launch its first Augmented Reality (AR) glasses in 2024. These cutting-edge glasses, codenamed "Orion" within Meta, will feature state-of-the-art silicon carbide (SiC) lenses, promising an enhanced visual experience for users.
With SiC lenses, users can expect improved clarity and a wider field of view, taking AR experiences to the next level. Meta has set an initial production target of 1000 units for these glasses and uses them only for internal development and demonstration purposes
While the first-generation Orion glasses will utilize SiC lenses, the company has plans to incorporate LCoS technology in the second and third generations of their AR glasses. This shift is aimed at optimizing the overall user experience while maintaining cost-effectiveness.LCoS technology offers a more mature and refined technology, allowing for larger-scale production and affordability. There are a couple of LCoS technology application optical modules in DisplayModule.
